Biography

Abe Bird was born in 3270 on Gliese 868 6, into a family of hydroponic farmers who expected him to spend his life coaxing vegetables out of nutrient tanks under artificial light. Abe had other ideas. As a young man, he drifted into the orbit of the Gliese 868 Dragons, first as a runner and mechanic, then as someone who knew just enough about weapons, smuggling routes and frightened people to become useful.

He eventually left the Dragons behind and built a name for himself as a mercenary, taking contracts across the bubble and developing an encyclopedic knowledge of ship-mounted weapon systems. For years, Abe was the kind of man people hired when negotiations had failed and insurance premiums were already written off.

His career ended abruptly when a blaster shot shattered his knee during a boarding action that went bad. Abe survived, but the injury made front-line work a poor long-term prospect. In 3308, he found a quieter berth aboard the SNPX Moonshield, where he now runs the carrier’s armament station. He handles ammunition procurement, keeps the weapons lockers stocked, and supplies visiting pilots with the calm efficiency of a man who has fired nearly everything he sells.
